Seriously, in a country where the BCS bowl system has flourished, I don't think we have standing to whine about round robin rules.

Wearing Apple

3 Comments and 4 Shares

Great piece by Craig Hockenberry, thinking about Apple and wearable devices:

Given everything presented above, it’s pretty clear to me that a “smartwatch” isn’t in Apple’s immediate future. But they’re clearly interested in wearable technology. So what are the alternatives for a product that could be released this year?

The first step is to start looking at things from Apple’s point-of-view. I ask myself, “What problems can a wearable device solve?”

As I think about answers to that question, it leads me to the conclusion that Jony Ive and crew aren’t looking solely at the wrist. Wearable technology could take cues from other kinds of jewelry: rings and necklaces, for example.

I think the actual article that Gruver points to is getting closer to how wearables gets done. It's not the destination, but a "cheap" way to get a little bit more info. For apple I think it's more about a piece that can be used multiple ways. A watch, a pendant, it's up to you. Maybe a couple of different sensors that take advantage of wrist or the fact that it lays on your chest.

Eff Your Review

And another one:

If I wanted to leave a review of our app I would have.

I’ve long considered a public campaign against this particular practice, wherein I’d encourage Daring Fireball readers, whenever they encounter these “Please rate this app” prompts, to go ahead and take the time to do it — but to rate the app with just one star and to leave a review along the lines of, “One star for annoying me with a prompt to review the app.”

I have to disagree. The worst thing has been apps that crash when I tap a button. Bugs happen, I know, but if you're asking me what I think of your app you better be on your best behavior right then so test the heck out of it. Both Glympse and Audible have crashed on me in this way, and under normal circumstances I enjoy them enough I might actually forgive the dialog and leave a nice review. But crashing here is unforgivable.

The worst thing is that for pretty much every app, "No thanks" turns out to mean, "Remind me later."

I've seen this phone here in Seoul. It is enormous and ridiculous looking. But the Koreans seem to like the larger screens, mostly because they consume a lot of visual content on their devices while commuting. Korean handsets even have retractable antennnas for receiving television broadcasts through a standard called DMB.
